ADULT TOUR TICKET
The Civil War Walk
10:30am Daily
Duration: 2 Hours · Distance: 1.25 Miles
Engaging and scenic, this two hour tour thoroughly explores Charleston's Civil War experience. The tour is based on The Bombardment of Charleston, the book authored by the Civil War Walk's founder and lead guide - Chris Phelps.
In Charleston the opening scene of the conflict was acted out by hosting the secession convention in December 1860, which led South Carolina out of the Union, the first of eleven Southern states to withdraw. Four months later, in April of 1861, the war was inaugurated in Charleston harbor when Southern forces fired on the U.S. garrison in Ft. Sumter.
It seemed as though Charleston was destined to pay the ultimate price for her sins when the entire might of the Union Army and Navy decended on her in the spring and summer of 1863.
This epic tour will tell you the story that followed that fateful time in our City's history.
