With a concrete base resting on a submarine crib filled with stones, the Romanesque-style building has steel framing. The smaller one-story section of the light contains the fog signal. The larger, three story section, however, once provided living quarters to the light-keeper and any assistants. Originally the apparatus for the light was a weight driven, clockwork mechanism. However, in 1965, the Coast Guard replaced the outdated system with an electric motor. Exclusively for the Apple Tree."
