The barn, built in 1936, has lower-level walls made of one foot tamarack logs stacked sideways in cement. This combination of building materials provided a solid base for such “stove wood” barns. The advertisement for Dr. Pierce’s “discovery” represents a patented medication that was a popular remedy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries."
